A quick way to refresh eyes bothered by everyday irritants, such as air pollution and pollen, is to splash them with plain water. Below are other easy treatments for eye complaints.
BAGS AND DARK CIRCLES
To reduce bags and lighten dark circles:
2 slices potato or pear
Place a thin slice of pear or potato beneath each eye and lie down to rest. Keep on for 15 minutes and then rinse off the residue.
REDNESS AND PUFFINESS
To soothe red, puffy eyes:
2 slices cucumber
Lie down and place thin slices of cold cucumber over closed eyes. Relax for 15 minutes. For a cool, clean feeling, rub slices over the face. Rinse.
DRY SKIN IN EYE AREA
To moisturize skin around eyes:
1 tbsp. castor oil, mineral oil,
or oil from vitamin E, A,
or D capsules (break open)
Being careful to keep it out of eyes, gently rub oil on surrounding skin. Use before going to bed for all-night treatment.
TIRED EYES
To soothe tired eyes:
2 chamomile tea bags
2 cups boiling water
Cheesecloth
Steep tea bags in water for 30 minutes. Remove bags. Let the water cool, then freeze it in an ice cube tray. Tie ice cubes into a square of cheesecloth. Rub bundle around eyelids and under eyes. (Also refreshing for the entire face, especially on hot days.)
